In the 2-Day Short Movie Program students will learn the basics in Directing, Cinematography, and Editing.
This Program is designed to teach our students the basics in pre-production, production and post-production with a focus on Directing, Cinematography, and Editing.
The 2-Day Short Movie Program is divided into two phases.
1. Day 1 is Instruction/Pre-production.
2. Day 2 is Production/Post-Production.
To ensure personal attention from instructors, we only accept 10 students per class.
In the 2-Day Short Movie Program, YOU will make a SHORT MOVIE IN A GROUP!
Heres what you'll learn:
Cinematography
Introduction to Cinematography covering an overview of composition, light and color, lighting continuity, gripping and gaffing.
Directing
Introduction to directing covering an overview of the functions of the director.
Editing with Final Cut Pro
Introduction to Editing, designed to provide students with basic skills for 24/30fps projects using Final Cut Pro.
Hands-on
This isn't a class, it's an exercise! Our hands-on exercises are where the instructor, (producing, directing or cinematography instructor) actually works with students.
Here is a break down of what the 2-Day schedule will be like.
Day 1
9am-11:30am
Hands-on exercise
We begin the day by giving the students a script. The students go over the Sony HDV camera then they are asked to make a short movie.
11:30am-12:30pm Lunch
12:30pm-3:00pm
Directing
Students are given a description of what a Director does, how they handle the crew and talent. They are shown a wide variety of shots (ie close up medium and wide shot) and their
meanings. They are shown how to make a shot list and floor plan. Followed by a hands-on activity.
3:15pm-5:45pm
Cinematography
Students are given a description of what a Cinematographer does the importance of good lighting and how you can become a Cinematographer. The roles of a gaffer and grip are
also covered in this class.
Followed by a lighting demonstration.
HOMEWORK To Be Determined by instructors.
Day 2
9am-11:30am
Hands-on Production
The day begins with a production meeting were students and instructors go over the students shot list and floor plans. use the knowledge
that they were given on day 1 and shoot the script that they were given.
11:30am-12:30pm Lunch
12:30pm-3:00pm Hands-on Production Continued
3:15pm-5:45pm
HDV Editing with Final Cut Pro
Students are taught how to make new projects in Final Cut Pro according to the specs of the footage they shot. They are shown how to crate bins
and sequences and then log and capture footage and import audio files, then they will insert the footage into the time line to create the final product.
This is a one of a kind program and a great way for new students to get their start in filmmaking.
